FOXC1 Molecular Mechanisms

The FOXC1 gene is activated in the nucleus of tumor cells, where the genetic code is transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA) and exported into the cytoplasm for translation by ribosomes into FOXC1 transcription factor protein. Under the direction of nuclear localization signals (i.e., NR2F2), TF FOXC1 trans locates back into the nucleus and activates its targeted gene network. The presence of TF FOXC1 in tumor cell nuclei as visualized via Veresca FOXC1 IHC test provides valuable information on the proportion and extent to which FOXC1+ cells with high metastatic propensity are present in the tumor landscape.
